Poppy Curses and Emerald Skies is officially out! It is my standalone Wizard of Oz retelling, and it’s getting a wonderful reception so far.

    What’s it about, you ask?

    Oz is no longer safe.

After a glowing green object lands in her front yard, Dori wakes up in a strange land where warriors are forgetting their names, citizens are fleeing to the forest for sanctuary, and any mention of the Enchantress elicits fear.

Dori wants nothing more than to get back home. However, she finds herself drawn to the three guardians of Oz: East, North, and West.

Each with their own curse, Dori discovers that she has a crucial role in helping break these curses and in defeating the evil Enchantress.

Can Dori help restore the balance to Oz before the Enchantress finds her? Or is Oz destined to be cursed for eternity?

    Where can you find it?

Pretty much everywhere! Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, Kobo Plus, Apple Books, ect. (The only link you’ll need is at the bottom of this post).

If you are fans of the original Wizard of Oz story I’d love to know what you think about this retelling!

  • New Book Alert

    May 16th, 2024

    Hello friends!

I have some exciting updates for you. I’ll be posting cross my socials more this weekend, but you guys get the information first!

I have been working on a fantasy/wizard of oz retelling, and the original plan was to publish it in the fall, probably October. Well, life has a way of altering plans.

Instead, I’m planning on publishing it at the end of June, hurray! I have the cover, I have the edited book, and I have zero secret keeping skills, so why not format it and get it ready for all of you!

The first part that you get to know is the title! It changed about four or five times, but now it’s official:

    Poppy Curses and Emerald Skies

Rolls right off the tongue, doesn’t it? In the next week or so I’ll be looking for ARC readers, I’ll be doing a cover reveal, ect.

For now, just know that this is the best thing I’ve ever written, and I’m so excited to share it with you all.

    Thanks for being here.

  • Are you friend or foe?

    May 7th, 2024

Something I have seen discourse around lately is if authors are each other’s competition.

My take on it? We are all on the same team : team reading books is good!

As a reader I know I won’t be picking just one or two books and reading those ones for the rest of my life, ignoring all others in the same genre. So why, as an author, would I think of other authors as my competition? If they have books in the same genre, with the same subject matter, that’s good for me. I can let readers know ‘hey, if you liked this author, you’ll enjoy my book, too!’.

Books from other authors can act like a bridge for readers to find me and my books. In the same token, my books can be a bridge for readers to find other authors in the same genre.

My bookcase can confirm that the more the merrier. I want other authors to succeed. Maybe they can reach a reader and bring that reader into our genre, and then I can help extend their stay.

The amount of fantasy books I have based on the same summary – fantasy stories with human woman and a variety of fae men. Do I think I have all I need in this genre? No! There are hundreds more out there, and I’ll keep searching them out.

It’s not a competition. If anything, it’s a team sport. Does that mean that some authors will do better before I find success? Probably. Does that mean my work is any less worthy than theirs? Nope. And that works both ways. We’re all on the same map, just on different journeys.

The worth of my book does not diminish because another author has a similar story line.

That’s all I wanted to say.

    What do you think?

  • Touchy Subject, Authors

    April 23rd, 2024

    Hi friends,

Let’s talk about something that I’ve seen discussed on Threads these past couple of weeks.

The statement: Authors should not be reviewing books from other authors on their platforms. Agree or disagree?

Honestly, I’m torn on the subject. For instance, I started out on Tiktok reviewing books, I did it for over a year and a half. I have a Goodreads page where I review what I read and if I really liked the book I even type of a paragraph or two. That’s what I’ve done for so long. I enjoy reading something and letting other readers know what my thoughts were.

Now I’m questioning it all. I understand the argument, which goes something like this. An author reviewing another author’s book, especially if it’s not a five star read, is tacky because other authors are like their coworkers. It would be like one restaurant chain dissing the service at another restaurant chain on their marketing platform.

Do I think I’ll stop reviewing books? This is where I’m torn. I’m on a few PR teams for a couple of authors, and part of that is to talk about their stuff on social media. That I won’t be stopping because I believe in those authors and their work.

Will I stop using Goodreads and the rating system on there? Probably not. When I started Goodreads it wasn’t for others, it was for myself. I have a horrible memory and Goodreads is how I track for myself the books I read and what I thought about them. It helps me track my reading goals, and if others see my reviews and it helps them out, then I’m happy to help.

What I may stop doing is posting any commentary on one and two start books. I will probably stop talking about books I didn’t really like on Tiktok. But I still will put a star rating on what I read on Goodreads. Does that seem fair? I’m now an author, but I’m also a reader, so having a foot in both worlds comes with shades of grey.

What do you think about this? Agree or disagree on the idea that authors don’t need to be reviewing other authors’ books?

  • Beta Readers Wanted

    April 13th, 2024

It is time! Time for me to pull together beta readers for Emerald Skies.

I’ll link the form for anyone interested, but here’s the basics of it.

I am on the look out for beta readers for my fantasy novel, Emerald Skies, which comes out in October. Emerald Skies is a fantasy novel that revolves around a darker land of Oz.

Summary: Four fae guardians are charged with protecting their lands and people. Through a series of events an Enchantress curses the land and the guardians, taking power for herself. In a last ditch effort to call for help the guardians send out a distress signal, which Dori, a woman from another land, unwittingly receives.
When she arrives in this other realm she is tasked with breaking multiple curses, freeing the guardians and the people, defeating the Enchantress, and bringing balance back to the land.

I will be sending the beta version out April 29th, 2024. I would like to have feedback no later than May 20th, 2024. PDF’s will be sent through BookFunnel.

    What am I looking for?

    – feedback on the plot, pacing, and consistency of the story itself

For everyone else, I can’t wait for October to show you all what I’ve been working so hard on! I honestly think it’s the best story telling and writing I’ve ever done!

  • Awakening Fate is officially a Kindle Unlimited Book!

    March 26th, 2024

    Hey lovely people,

It’s been a bit quiet of over here, and that mostly has to do with the fact that I’m trying to put my all in to, not only finding new readers for Awakening Fate, but also putting my all in to draft 2 of Emerald Skies. I’m just over half way through, but it is taking up most of my spare time.

The goal is to finish draft 2, revise it one more time after that, and then send it off to my editor. I should be picking the publishing date soon for Emerald Skies, at this point I know it’s going to be in October at some point.

In other exciting news, I’m commissioning a couple of bookmarks! The goal for the end of the year is to be able to sell signed copies of my novels from my very own website, with maybe a piece of swag! Fingers crossed!

But, the more exciting news for you is that Awakening Fate is officially in the Kindle Unlimited universe! So, if you happen to be a subscriber and you are on the lookout for new authors, check me out there!

For now that’s where I’ll leave you! I hope you’re having a wonderful spring!

    Thanks for being here!

  • Who cursed Oz?

    March 17th, 2024

    Hello friends!

While I’m proud of my newly published novel, Awakening Fate (linked below), and I out in the mean streets of the internet trying to find new readers for it, I am also hard at work behind the scenes writing my next novel, Emerald Skies.

Emerald Skies is a fantasy/wizard of oz retelling that should be coming to you in the fall.

But what’s it about? Oz is a darker place than you may remember. It is a land that is protected by 4 fae princes. Each of the princes represents one of the following: the lion, the scarecrow, the tinman, and the wizard. They work together to keep the land and it’s people safe and in balance. Tragedy has struck and a pair of witch sisters have placed curses on each prince and the land, throwing everything out of balance.

Dori is a young adult who happens to be magical transported to this Oz late one night. She discovers a land of magic and mystery, but also a land that is hurting and a society that is living in the shadows. Follow Dori as she makes a few friends on the road, and finds that fate brought her there for a reason. Can Dori help her new friends break the curses laid upon them before it’s too late?

Where am I at with writing the story? I have started the second draft of Emerald Skies, it’s looking like it will be in the 80,000 to 100,000 range. It is a stand alone novel with magic, creatures, and a possible romance.

Follow along for more updates as Emerald Skies comes to life on the page!

For those of you wondering, the next book in my Intertwined series, Discover Fate, should be out in the new year.

    Thanks for being here!
